Evidence of Satan in the Modern World
Published in Paperback by Tan Books & Publishers, Inc. (June, 1977)
Author: Leon Cristiani
Average review score:

Review from the Publisher
"The Devil's deepest while is to persuade us that he does not exist " Using Baudelaire's well known phrase as a starting point, Msgr. Cristiani has amassed convincing proof that the Devil does indeed exist and that he continues to manifest his presence in the modern world, no less than in earlier times. Because he documents with scrupulous care the still present phenomena of diabolical infestation, possession and temptation, his book has become one of the best ever written on the subject. Covers Satan's activity during the apparitions at Lourdes and his involvement in tormenting St. John Marie Vianney. No one studying possession, the power of the devil, and exorcism should miss this book. Powerful!

Superb referenece on demonic possession and exorcism
The book though published in the early part of our century looks and well documented cases of demonic possession and infestation particularly describing those who were considered to be holy individuals made to suffer the terrible ordeal of demonic attacks in order to attain sanctification. It is considerably unbiased and also discusses the many instances of the demonic to discredit the apparitions at Lourdes, France. One of the best books depicting actual exorcisms ever written as it compliles something like twenty cases. Also discusses clergy's spiritual responsibility to aid someone afflicted with infestation or possession. States that it is considered a great sanctification and pre-eminent grace by providing exorcism. Describes Canon Law of the R.C. Church as regards the rite of exorcism. However the ruling has recently changed and this information is now not quite accurate.

Fantastic!! Should be a children's classic.
I remember reading this book to my much younger brother, he absolutely loved it and would check it out of the library at every opportunity. It is truly a wonderful children's book, and I am amazed that it is out of print. If you get the opportunity to read it, do so! Your children will love it, and so will you.

A very magical spin on the true meaning of Christmas.
I can't believe this book is out-of-print! It has all the right ingredients for a really lovely Christmas story: orphans, a dog, and a wonderful ending. I had to make a decided effort to obtain this book, but my search was well-rewarded. However, my desire to purchase it as a special Christmas gift for three children who love Leon Garfield's other work will not be satisfied...'tis unluckily out-of-print! Very un-fair!

From Quarks to the Cosmos: Tools of Discovery

Big subject in a small book
As the name of this reference implies, it provides a good review from particle physics to astrophysics, and of significance, relates inner space to outer space. Both theoretical and experimental methods are explored. The classical big-bang theory is clearly discussed, as are its difficulties and the solutions provided by inflation theory.

Extremely clear and easy to read, plus beautiful!
I have read lots of popular science books about particle physics and this is way out in front of the pack! It clarified many things that other authors just assumed the reader could understand. For example, the section on how to build synchrotrons and accelerators and why the devices are shaped the way they are was so clear. Plus the color photographs and drawings make it a lovely book to just browse through. If you love particle physics, or are even just a little intrigued, this book is a must! I intend to reread it sometime.

The Further Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix (STAR06749)
Published in Paperback by Marvel Books (October, 1997)
Authors: Peter Milligan and John Paul Leon
Average review score:

A tragic tale of how Mister Sinister came to be
This is the tragic story about the origin of Sinister. Scott Summers and Jean Grey are brought back to the Victorian age. It was when Sinister was still known as Nathaniel Essex: A brilliant scientist, who was way too obsessed with reaching his goal: Creating the perfect species. He even puts his neglected wife aside in the name of science.

Other scientists slam his ideas and he only meets failure when trying to pursue his goal. But then he meets En Sabah Nur, also known as the evil mutant Apocalypse - Who tells him there is a way for him to do it. All Nathaniel has to do is choose between that or the love of his caring wife.

This is a very good story about love, the difficult choice this man had to make and how he came to the decision he eventually made. After years and years of hating Mister Sinister for everything he's done to the X-Men... You find that he's had a heart once. And I couldn't help but feel a bit sorry for the guy. They did Sinister good with this story. The writing is great. The thoughts, emotions and distant relationship between Nathaniel Essex and his wife Rebecca are done marvellously. The events can be shocking at times (don't ever browse through a comic book quickly!!!)

The art is very dark and contains alot of shadows - which works very well for this setting and story. It sets the mood for the story just right. Some might take a while to get used to the style, but that happens pretty quick once you get deep into the book.

If you've loved the love story of "Batman: Mask of the Phantasm", I'd recommend this. I would probably be sorry for saying this, but... It made me shed a tear :o)

Excellent 4 part series all wrapped into one.
Overall this is a good story, interesting plot.. and of course features the coolest enemy of them all (IMHO) Apocalypse! Seems he's at the root of just about everything in the x-universe these days eh?

Excellent artwork and a great read. I highly recommend it to the Apocalypse fan .

Guerra y paz
Published in Hardcover by Edimat Libros (2000)
Authors: Leon Tolstoi and León Tolstoi
Average review score:

Harrap's Mini Spanish Dictionary : English-Spanish Spanish-English
Published in Paperback by Harrap (December, 1992)
Authors: Joaquin Blasco and Fernando Leon Solis
Average review score:

The absolute best - a shame it's out of print
I agree with the previous reviewer. This is the best single dictionary on the market (or not on the market it appears). My copy is 7+ years old and still going strong. The vinyl cover is a godsend.

And the content can't be beat. You'll find an incredibly rich variety of definition within even a single word listing. By contrast, I always find the definitions in the so-called 'standard' (Chicago) dictionary to be severely lacking.

Bring back the vinyl, por favor.

The Best Small Spanish English Dictionary I Have Found
I'm a Spanish teacher and have looked at many, many Spanish English dictionaries for my use, but especially for my students. Harrap's Mini (with the vinyl cover) is, by far, the best one I've found. I doesn't fall apart, like the paperbacks I have bought for classroom use, and it has more words and better definitions than any other compact dictionary I've found. I give it five stars. However, it is out of print and has been replaced by a paperback, which has the problems of all paperbacks after continuous use by students. The new one falls apart. Please write to the Publisher (MacMillan USA) and ask them to reprint this dictionary.

Heritage Songster

A Great Resource
This is an incredible resource for oldies. And I do mean OLDIES. This book is invaluable for anyone who wants to find old ballads, folk songs, nursery rhymes and much more. Includes piano line and guitar chords. Great book!

Indispensable
Heritage Songster is indispensable to any and all musicians. Whether you teach, compose, arrange, or perform, this book can be extremely helpful. It is full of songs from a wide variety of styles. It is also helpful because it gives many suggestions about the uses of the songs and whether or not a song is appropriate for certain instruments, groups, etc. I have used this book since college, and it has been well worth the money. Adults, children, students, co-workers, and everybody else will love this book!

Hoffman's honger : roman
Published in Unknown Binding by De Bezige Bij ()
Author: Leon de Winter
Average review score:

A metaphysical quest for meaning in a senseless 20th century
The antihero of this novel tries to fill in - with ravenous eating - the abyss experienced as a child by the loss of his Jewish parents in the Holocaust and later as an adult of his two daughters, amidst the cracking and crumbling Iron Wall - rejecting the past, not finding a place in the present. Only Spinoza, another Dutch Jewish outcast in search for meaning, whose writings punctuate the novel along the food binges, will provide a glimmer of hope - whence "Hoffman"...

This novel, as well as the other one I read, Sionoco, deals with an alienated Jewish man searching for his father, as well as the strength and weight of the generations - of the individual in his family (Sionoco: Mayer repeating almost exactly the fault of his father) or in his people (Hoffman's quest echoing that of Spinoza's centuries before). Dark, brooding, deep: after the last page, the book continues to resonate.

Magnificent book by one of the best dutch authors
A most amazing story about a insomniac diplomate. He spends his nights reading Spinoza and mourning about the loss of his children. His non-interest in his job and his affaire set up his downfall resulting in a fled. Make sure you start reading early in the day or you won't sleep at night, because you won't be able to put it away.

How to Be Your Own Butcher

Authors: Stanley Lobel, Leon Evan, Leon Lobel, Evan Lobel, and Leon Stanley
Average review score:

The perfect gift
I have a friend who's a very nice guy, but I admit he's a little weird and very hard to figure out good birthday gifts for. I gave him this for his birthday recently and he loved it, which is perhaps not too surprising in retrospect, since his favorite movie is the Texas Chain-Saw Massacre.

Excellent
This is an extremely useful guide to being your own butcher. If you follow the guidance carefully this book teaches you the basics of cutting meat from your own body. Perfect for the man who enjoys fava beans and a nice chianti.

Ireland a Terrible Beauty

Outstanding
From what I understand, the inspiration for this book came out of Leon Uris' research for the novel, "Trinity".

It's a pity that this book is out of print. It is an excellent photographic journal -- Jill did the photography, and Leon wrote the narrative. It gives a very real portrait of Ireland, and how this moment in history has arrived. You will not find these pictures in any travel brochure -- they are quite remarkable.
